Announcing ZBrush 4R3

Just under a month ago, Pixologic released the powerful ZBrush 4R3. In addition to enhancing the BPR capabilities of ZBrush, this new version also added innnovative and exciting features such as FiberMesh and MicroMesh.

We weren’t done! Pixologic is pleased to announce the upcoming release of ZBrush 4R3.
This update includes new features and expands the features introduced in previous versions.


Enhancements Include:

FiberMesh. Significant advancements to the FiberMesh settings provide you with greater control and flexibility. Curve modifiers have now been added to a number of FiberMesh settings including: Length, Coverage, Gravity and Color Profile. Revolve has also been added as a new setting. Textures applied to FiberMesh and MicroMesh objects can now be transparent (true black pixels will be hidden), allowing even greater diversity in their use. FiberMesh settings can now be saved and loaded as needed it. In addition, various FiberMesh presets will ship with ZBrush 4R3. These presets can be pre-viewed in Lightbox, as well as modified and shared amongst ZBrush artists. Once you have styled your FiberMesh to perfection, export the fiber guides to other applications for further use. Moreover, fibers can also be exported as unique vector displacement maps to be rendered in external applications.

Pixologic ships ZBrush 4R2b

Pixologic has released ZBrush 4R2b, its free update to ‘polish the rough corners’ of ZBrush 4R2.

The developer had previously previewed its new FiberMesh hair and fur system, included as part of 4R2b, but the update also includes a number of new material and mask-handling features:

  • FiberMesh
    Create true 3D fibers, fur and hair which may be sculpted, painted, UV mapped and exported to other apps.
  • New set of dedicated FiberMesh Groom brushes and corresponding Brush settings
  • MicroMesh support to render fibers or single polygons as another 3D object
  • New set of BPR filters and operators
  • BPR Global Shadow and Ambient Occlusion settings to simplify shadow management
  • New Cavity Mixer
    Define different material shaders based on the mesh cavities
  • Improved small details creation through Alpha and Mask
    Alphas may be placed using TransPose
  • Surface Smoothness feature
    Detects mesh curvature for Mask creation
  • New global deformation with Transpose Curve deformation and UnClip
  • Improved Mask operations with Shrink and Extend
  • Topology editing additions: Group Mask and Edgeloop Mask Border
